John M. Pope, Ph.D
President, and Chief Executive Officer
John Pope, Ph.D is President and CEO of WellDog. Pope founded WellDog in 1999 to focus on geochemical sensing of coal seams. Under his leadership, WellDog invented a new reservoir analysis technology, evolved into a vertically integrated CSG service provider, and expanded into the international coal seam gas, coal mining and conventional oil and gas sectors. Pope was appointed by the Governor to the Wyoming CBM Water Use Task Force from 2005-2007 and to the U.S. Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission in 2006. Pope holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Wyoming and a B.S. in Physics from the University of Missouri-Rolla/Missouri Mines. He has worked at Monsanto Chemical Company and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Pope has started and grown a number of companies in diverse industries, including a small CSG operator in Wyoming. John holds several patents in the US and Australia and has published dozens of technical papers. He currently splits time between Wyoming and Queensland.
Chief Operating Officer
James Walker is Chief Operating Officer of WellDog. Walker joined WellDog in 2013, bringing more than twenty-five years of successful management experience in the oilfield service sector. Walker is responsible for establishing and commercializing a range of exciting technologies for the Characterization and Production of Unconventional Reservoirs. He oversees the ongoing business operations within WellDog. He is a native of Bristol, England. He received a Joint B.S. in Geology and Mining Engineering from the University of Nottingham and a MBA from The Robert Gordon University. Before joining WellDog, James Walker served as Chief Operating Officer of Quantapoint, Vice President, North America Pietro Fiorentini spa, and Vice President, Product Line – Intelligent Production Systems Baker Hughes Inc. Walker has a unique blend of operational, technical and marketing background, which provides strong capabilities and practical experiences combined with exceptional insight and business acumen.
Group Chief Financial Officer
Trenton K. Thornock is Group Chief Financial Officer of WellDog, the 16th fastest growing private energy company in the Inc. 500|5000. Thornock joined WellDog in 2015. Thornock is responsible for overall financial management of the company, its financial reporting and transparency, and arranging capital to fuel further growth. Before joining WellDog, Thornock was Senior Vice President and CFO at Scientific Drilling. His earlier CFO roles were at Duratherm, now a subsidiary of Clean Harbors and U.S. Zinc, now a subsidiary of Votorantim Group. After leaving public accounting, Thornock held various financial positions of increasing responsibility, domestically and internationally, and participated in the management development program at PPG Industries. His post-graduate professional career started at the CPA firm of Arthur Andersen. He has B.S. in Accounting and Master of Professional Accountancy degrees from University of Utah.
Chief Commercial Officer
Peter Christian is Chief Commercialization Officer of WellDog. Christian has more than thirty years of Oil & Gas Industry experience having worked in North America, the North Sea and Middle East. His experience ranges from Engineering, Operations to Business Development. In his role as CCO, Christian’s primary responsibilities are to manage WellDog’s R&D, Engineering functions, and commercialization process in order to accelerate progress of new capabilities and technologies from R&D to Sales. Christian holds a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri – Columbia and an MBA in International Business from Warwick Business School in Coventry, UK. Christian was Engineering Manager for Halliburton Energy Services, Head of Well Services for Petroleum Development Oman and outsource Engagement Manager for BP Exploration Alaska. In addition to launching cost effective services for WellDog, Peter was also responsible for developing and taking the next generation of Oil & Gas drilling rig to market for the Shale drilling market. He is based in Laramie,Wyoming.
