Angel Capital Association features WellDog case study at its 2014 Summit

Laramie, Wyoming, USA (26 March 2014) – The Angel Capital Association has featured WellDog as the lead program in the International Exchange Workshop at its 2014 Summit held this week in Washington, D.C. The all-day workshop kicked off with a panel of invited investor and management representatives discussing how WellDog partnered with a multinational syndicate of private investors to build a successful international business.

The panel, moderated by David Gitlin of Greenberg Traurig, included John Pope, president and CEO of WellDog, John Mactaggart, chairman of Brisbane Angels and Chair Emeritus of the Australian Association of Angel Investors, and John Filla, principal of Terrapin Stone of Houston.

“When this company came to us in late 2010 as it entered the Australian market, it was a compelling deal that just had to be done,” said Mactaggart. “Since then, the company has matured considerably, developed additional technical products and services in Australia, and is now exporting those to other markets around the world. We certainly are pleased that we are part of this truly international company.”

“WellDog was invited here because they stand head and shoulders above so many of our portfolio companies in terms of performance and prospects,” said Filla. “Their story was a highlight of today’s sessions.”

The popular International Investment Exchange program is a forum for sharing ideas and experiences among angel investor groups from North America, Europe, Latin America, Pacific Rim, and MENA Region, and has led to collaboration among angel groups worldwide. It also gathers international angels together for a discussion of the challenges in creating active and sustainable investing groups.

Key topics in the 2014 International Exchange included: notable new successes in mature angel markets around the globe and how they manage ongoing challenges; how to bring portfolio companies into the U.S. for raising investment capital, expanding commerce, and finding exit opportunities; and support by multilateral agencies for the development of angel groups in emerging market countries with the imminent release by the World Bank of their infoDev group’s new manual, International Guide for Creating Angel Investor Networks.
