WellDog Congratulates Brisbane Bandits on Reaching Australian Baseball League National Championship

Bandits to host and appear in their first championship series

WellDog announced today that the Brisbane Bandits, its professional baseball partner, accomplished an extraordinary first place league finish and won an upcoming appearance in the National Championship Series.  The Bandits play against the Adelaide Bite this weekend in Brisbane to determine who will bring home the Claxton Shield.

“Our partnership with the Bandits has been a great experience,” said WellDog CEO John M. Pope, Ph.D.  “During this season we have watched them establish their dominance within the ABL.  We are proud to support such an innovative and hardworking team. The entire WellDog organization is pulling for the Bandits this weekend. In fact, many of our staff and their families will be watching from the stands at Holloway Field.  Go Bandits!”

The Bandits first place league finish gives them the home field advantage at Holloway Field.  The best-two-out-of-three-games series kicks off on Friday, February 5th with the following games on February 6th and 7th (if needed).  All three games are scheduled to start at 6:00 pm AEST and will be televised around the world on ESPN and in the U.S. on the MLB network.

WellDog’s sponsorship of the Brisbane Bandits is the flagship program in the company’s initiatives promoting community health and development through cross-cultural sporting activities and exchanges, suicide prevention initiatives, and other activities.

ABOUT THE ABCLS:  After securing the Australian Baseball League Minor Premiership, the Brisbane Bandits, proudly presented by WellDog, will host the ABL Championship Series and bring ABL playoff baseball to Queensland for the first time in franchise history.

The Brisbane Bandits, proudly presented by WellDog, represent Queensland in the Australian Baseball League, a professional national league owned by Major League Baseball and in its sixth season of operation. The Bandits’ home field is historic AFA Stadium at Holloway Field, Newmarket.

After a sweep against reigning-champions Perth Heat in the ABL’s final regular season round, the Brisbane Bandits boasted 23 wins out of 28 home games at Holloway Field. This winning percentage at home will play to their favour when the ABLCS takes place on home soil next week.

The Championship Series will be played in a best-of-three series on Friday 5, Saturday 6 and (if required) Sunday 7 February against the Adelaide Bite or Canberra Cavalry, which will be determined after this weekend. Gates open 5pm with opening pitch at 6pm for each game.

All ABLCS games will be aired live on ESPN from 6pm AEST (7pm AEDT and broadcast internationally on MLB network and Fox Sports Asia).
